Past Week Stuff

Ok, so for those of you who have tuned into the "Phillips Family" blog since the beginning basically, you will remember back when Dani was first born, and she and I were sitting in the basement for 2 days while the upstairs was torn apart by the window guys. Quick recap, that was in October, we had ordered the windows in June. They messed up and made our bay window wrong, so said that they would be back in December with it. Made it wrong again. Said we'd get something up for January. We didn't hear from them till March (yes, just now) and that was just a message to see where the rest of their money was, as I refused to pay more than the deposit till the work was complete. So now, they get a call back from us saying it's funny they are looking for their money, as we are looking for our window. 9 months after we ordered it. Neither of us (Chris nor I) are very happy about this, obviously, and it may have shown through on Chris's sarcastic v-mail. Well, funny enough, they miraculously have our window the next week to install. So needless to say, the day the guys came here to install was a joke, just like the majority of their products and services. They show up (the one guy in charge is the original installer, whom we were told didn't even work with the company anymore, and that is why we were not contacted about finishing the job, as everyone else was under the impression that it was already done. Strange... I guess he musta got hired back...) and they only have one window out of the three that are needed to make a BAY window. Who ever heard of a bay window with just one sheet of glass? I guess they are only in the 'window' business, maybe that's beyond their scope of knowledge. So, after only 2 trips back to the office in the city, and what I think was a trip to the local Home Hardware store, to get extra materials to cut and paste the windows into place, as they sure didn't slide right in, they got it up and working. I painted the surrounding wood white, and it actually looks pretty good. So finally the All Weather Windows fiasco is finished! Well, the bill isn't settled yet, nor will it be until they send their branch manager over next week to inspect the work, hear the whole story, and tell us if this is the quality of work that their consumers should expect. Stay tuned...

Onto nicer topics, Amy and I got to head to Canmore this past Saturday for a night of relaxation. It was so super awesome. We stayed at the FalconCREST Lodge. (Not FalconRIDGE, which is a sketchy part of NE Calgary) We watched movies and ate room service, went out for a quick Starbucks and a walk with Roxie (the little dog came, and Mags stayed home with Dad and the kiddies). Sunday morning we walked the shops downtown and headed back home in the early aft. It was great for a little break, and it was super awesome for my wonderful husband to give me that treat! But it was the first night I spent away from Dani, so I was lonely for her, and Zac, and after almost 2 years of marriage, it feels really strange to sleep alone! So, I was refreshed and happy to come home!

We spent Wednesday running errands, Dr. appts, post office, and da-da-da-da! opened Dani's bank account! So, it's a little special for me, maybe because I work at the bank, but whatever. It was her first 'official' business since getting her birth certificate, and next it's on to the dreaded SIN card, so we can get her RESPs started ASAP. :o) Oh what fun that paperwork is!

Thursday was Parent Teacher Interviews, and it was nice to hear again what a special, caring, happy son I have. It was also great to hear how he is coming along in his work, and touching base with his teacher to know whats up in his little life at school is always so interesting. Much more in depth than the answers I get from the horses mouth anyway...

But, I better run out the door, going to meet Amy and I still have to wake up Dani to get there in time (which will be late already, I can tell!)

Chow Time!

Make an on-line slide show at onetruemedia.com

So this is a montage of Dani's introduction to solid foods. It's a bit longer, as it includes a couple video clips, so get comfy and get ready to giggle!

Moms...

These are the answers given by 2nd grade school children to the following questions:

Why did God make mothers?
1. She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.
2. Mostly to clean the house.
3. To help us out of there when we were getting born.

How did God make mothers?
1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.
2. Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring.
3. God made my Mom just the same like he made me. He just used bigger parts.

What ingredients are mothers made of?
1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean.
2. They had to get their start from men's bones. Then they mostly use string, I think.

Why did God give you your mother and not some other mom?
1. We're related.
2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's moms like me.

What kind of little girl was your mom?
1. My mom has always been my mom and none of that other stuff.
2. I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.
3. They say she used to be nice.

What did mom need to know about dad before she married him?
1. His last name.
2. She had to know his background. Like is he a crook? Does he get drunk on beer?
3. Does he make at least $800 a year? Did he say NO to drugs and YES to chores?

Why did your mom marry your dad?
1. My dad makes the best spaghetti in the world. And my mom eats a lot.
2. She got too old to do anything else with him.
3. My grandma says that Mom didn't have her thinking cap on.

Who's the boss at your house?
1. Mom doesn't want to be boss, but she has to because dad's such a goof ball.
2. Mom. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed.
3. I guess Mom is, but only because she has a lot more to do than dad.

What's the difference between moms and dads?
1. Moms work at work and work at home and dads just go to work at work.
2. Moms know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.
3. Dads are taller and stronger, but moms have all the real power 'cause that's who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friend's.
4. Moms have magic, they make you feel better without medicine.

What does your mom do in her spare time?
1. Mothers don't do spare time.
2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.

What would it take to make your mom perfect?
1. On the inside she's already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery.
2. Diet. You know, her hair. I'd diet, maybe blue.

If you could change one thing about your Mom, what would it be?
1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I'd get rid of that.
2. I'd make my Mom smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me.
3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head.

How cute! :o)

a million pictures

So I had left my camera at Amy's house last Saturday. Here's a pile of pics I just got onto my computer...
This is all the kids at Amy's housewarming party. L-R - Madisyn, Jacob, Kyla, Dani, Kayla!Dani in her party dress. So cute!
Auntie with Jacob and Dani. Only one day seperates these two - we call em boyfriend/girlfriend. Good job Dani - Jacobs a hottie! ;o)
Roxie curled up in Dani's bouncy chair.
Snuggle with Shelly the Turtle. Get it? Shell-y
Doozie the Flames fan!
All dressed up for the game! GO FLAMES GO!
Zac loves his baby sister...
Smooch!

"Now, I've called this meeting today for the following reasons..." I'm sure that's what she's saying here. How do the bottoms of baby shoes get dirty? Dani actually sat by herself for a full 3 minutes yesterday! No pillows or nothing!
The kids hanging out downstairs together. They sat here for about a half an hour until Dani tipped over behind Zac and he didn't notice, even when she started to tell him to lift her back up! AH! That's what she says all the time. AH!
Zac's Gramma brought him back his bear that we bought him when he was still in my belly. Didn't know if he was a boy or girl hence the pink and blue hearts. He got Chris to drive him to school the other day so he could bring in "Bear Heart" (thats what he named him) for Show and Share day.
Life is like a hurricane here in Duckburg Race cars, lasers, aeroplanes It's a duck blur Might solve a mystery Or rewrite history! Ducktales! Woo Hoo! Everyday they're out there makin' Ducktales! Woo Hoo! Tales of daring, new, bad and good luck tales! D-d-d-danger lurks behind you There's a stranger out to find you What to do just grab on to some Ducktales! Woo Hoo!Everyday they're out there makin' Ducktales! Woo Hoo! Tales of daring, new, bad and good Ducktales! Woo Hoo! Not pony tales or cotton tales, no Ducktales! Woo Hoo!

Smiley baby - no teeth here though!

Snoozy Mags. Cuddling with the Ram.

More picture fun...

Dooz in her saucer... Now you can color her!

Daddy got dirty! Chris stopped for a second from sanding in the bathroom to play with Dani.
And of course I had to take his picture when he was done. I wish I would've taken my make-up out of the bathroom before - everything including Chris got caked with drywall dust! Dani... you have a little something on your face...right near your lip, no a bit to the right...

Ikea Trip

Last Thursday I met my sister and my friend Estelle at Ikea for lunch and shopping. I took my new camera (came with the bed from the Brick) and took these shots. I played around a bit with the Kodak program it uploads onto my computer with. Dani was so good. She loves Ikea. It scares her Daddy. She's just hanging with her Bee in the stroller...
Here's Kayla saying hi to Dani.
Kayla in one of the chairs in the kids area.
And Dani too! Little trouble-makers!

Bad news, Good news

So yesterday I had to flush the fish. When we first moved out here (over 2 years ago) we got Zac a Beta fish. One of those Chinese Fighting fish that live in the small bowls. Well, to begin with, I had a nice vase with bamboo and rocks in it for him, (his name is "Chocolate Thunda", see the movie The Cat in The Hat with Mike Myers in it if you don't get it) but cleaning it was a pain, so I ex-nayed the bamboo, and went with a smaller vase with less rocks. See, I'm the mom so I get to clean it. Even though it's not mine. And feed the thing every day too. Even though I don't want it. And even when I would "accidentally" forget to feed the stupid thing, he'd hold on till I "remembered" (ie; felt so bad that I caved in and fed the bloody thing!) Anyways, the fish lived WAY past his prime, as far as I 'm concerned, so he got flushed. Oh well, what do you do.

Good news, DANI GOT TEETH today! Two little bottom ones in the front. I'd take a picture, but yeah right. Good luck with that. That's probably why the little goose has been sorta fussy lately, and waking up in the night (she usually sleeps 12 hours through). But yay Dani! Toofers... so cute!

Weekend of Needles & Playtime

So my Mom & Dad were in town this weekend! It was a busy one.

Friday Zac had a sleepover at the neighbors house. He and Nick are in the same class, and have been best buddies since we started visiting Chris out here. We call them "Zacholas" and "Nichory".

Then Saturday we headed to the city and Zac went to my brother Jeffs house to hang with his cousins (Happy 13th Bday Brandon! March 7) and have another sleepover! I got to stop in to my friend Estelles baby girl Kaylas 1st Bday (Happy Bday Kayla! March 10) which was short but sweet. I can't believe it's been a year! I stopped in at Amy's house with a last load of her crap. Ha ha - just joshin' Ames! Her stuff. Then I had to boogy on home to finish painting our bedroom.

My Mom and Dad got to our place late that evening. We met up with Jeff and Allison and all 3 boys, and Amy too, at Rickys in Calgary to get Zac back the next morning and have a quick visit. Chris unfourtunatley missed it because of work.

Then we all took over Ikea for the afternoon. It was like the invasion of the Buchanans. Every department held at least one or 2 of us. So I picked up some nice sheers for the bedroom, and a new drapery rod for the living room (still can't decide on drapes for there though) and some new lamp shades for in the bedroom too. Then that evening was spend, as always, painting and working on the bathroom. The master bedroom is about 2 days away from being finished. I'm so excited! Chris got the bathtub installed today also, and I think it was pretty handy having my Dad's advice. Things are coming along. Slowly, it seems, but soon the house will be basically reno'd from top to bottom. It feels awesome! What a huge ordeal.

Anyway, back to the weekend. So Sunday night we just hung out with the parents, and this morning we all slept in. Even the neighbor kid Nick. Zac and he always walk to the bus together, but they both woke up 5 mins till they had to walk out the door. Luckily I had to get going to take Dani to get her immunizations, so we all piled into the car (with Gramma too!) and the boys got to school on time, and Dani got to the needles in time. She did so good, not even crying for the 1st shot. It was a round of 3, and by the 3rd she was pretty ticked off. She stopped crying right away though, such a big girl! And I really mean big girl. She weighs 17 lbs 4 ozs, (she will be 5 months old tomorrow) and is in the 95th percentile, and then she is 26 inches tall and in the 90th percentile. Here are some pics of her and me (I think they are almost the only ones in existance, since she was born!) playing on the floor. You can see the tape on her thighs from the shots. Poor baby. Zzzerrrberrrtt!
Dani has figured out how to pull hair. How fun.
Cheese!
Smooch!

New Pics

So I have been taking random shots of whatever is around me that interests me at the time. Mostly Dani, since she and I are always at home together. Or the dogs, if they are doing something more cute than stupid at the time... So here some are...

This is Dani eating her rice cereal. We caved in and started her on solids before the recommended 6 months, since she did nothing but stare and smack her lips anytime anyone was eating!

Her faces are SO funny! She looks like she doesn't like it, but she eats it down! Just adjusting to the taste, texture etc.She has been teething for what seems like since birth! Drooly girl...

Just see what she leaves on her exersaucer!?
Here is Amys new house! We moved her in on Saturday, and we are all adjusting to the loss. LOL, well, we know where to find each other if we can't stand the withdrawl...
Z-man and Roxie with Auntie in her living room. Very nice place Ames!
This is her kitchen, ignore the boxes, this was just on Sunday. She tells me lots has been organized since we were there, and I'm sure in no time she will be sending out the invites for her famous BBQs! Well, in fact, we are heading there for her house warnming on St. Patricks Day. Stay tuned for pics!
Out on the step, we were just leaving.
Dani P.
Silly girl still sleeps with the blankies over her face!
Another nap.
What?!?!
Smiles for Mommy!
Sweetheart!

So there you go. New pictures. Other than that, not a lot is new. Chris and I got to go out on Friday to meet up with a bunch of friends from my old branch in Crowfoot. There were about 7 of us out, met at Joyce on 4th, and it was loads of fun. Haven't seen some of them since pre-Dani, so it was good! This week is nothing fun. A meeting with my insurance guy, and a meeting to do my taxes. Whoo-hoo.
